Chasing Bliss: The Summer of Bliss Challenge, Week 2

You may recall my new fitness goal to tackle the Summer of Bliss Challenge. Well, we are on the second week of the challenge and I am feeling incredible! Exhausted by 2:00pm, but completely incredible. 

I have been exercising...like crazy. And I am so proud of myself. 



Here's what I've been up to when it comes to
my fitness routine:


  • Morning
Breakfast! A real one. Not just a coffee & run.  I feel better when I eat in the morning.
1 minute of plank pose (this is the move that wakes. me. up.)
10 minutes of Meditation (minimum)
20 Minutes of Exercise  (Pilates or NTC 5-6 days a week )

  • Afternoon
A healthy lunch and maybe a snack if I'm still hungry.
Lots of water throughout the day
Only 4 sugary drinks allowed per week. My cafe con leches have no sugar now. This deserves a high five, people.

  • Evening 
30 minutes of swimming (5 days a week. If I skip a swim day, I take a yoga class instead)
A dinner full of veggies and protein
Six hours of sleep (I'm working on making this 7 hours, but I can't get to bed before midnight).


The hardest part is ignoring that sneaky little gremlin who whispers: sleep just 10 more minutes, enticing me to roll over to hit snooze, or when he approaches while I'm on the Pilates chair, winks at me and says, "do it tomorrow instead." That guy has got to GO. He lurks in corners, sometimes enlisting people to bring me sugary snacks. I see him, hoping I crack, but I am not defeated.

I've essentially doubled my usual 3 day a week workouts and am kicking my habit of saying "I will wake up early and workout" then admitting that I lied to myself when I roll over at 6:00am just to hit the snooze button.  I'm also very conscious of using affirmations during exercise to keep me motivated to work 100% through, instead of coping out at the hard moves because... well, they're hard.

As a result of my new fitness routine my stamina has increased and I've notice changes in my body already. My body was craving this and I feel really proud of myself. 

I'm not weighing myself because that is not the goal. The goal is to tone and get into a better fitness routine.  I don't know whether I can keep it up for the long term. I'm going day by day, working through the challenge, and am doing great so far.

What is one wonderful thing you do that shows how dedicated you are to yourself?

Mine are all if the above! Your action plan doesn't have to fit in to my list, but we all need to have at least one consistent action that shows how much we love ourselves. Something that is just for us, that we plan into our schedules.

Your LushLunes mission: assess your self dedication level. Look at the calendar and find one consistent action you do for yourself.  If it's there, evaluate how you can make it better or add to it. Then pay it forward by motivating one person to start doing the same. However, if you find that there is none for yourself, but tons for others, you know and I know it's time to start a YOU plan now.  You are your own Wizard of Oz (that's deep, people).

LushLunes: Have Faith In Yourself


What you believe will come to pass. Have faith in yourself.

The Joel Osteen sermon in Sunday was about having faith in yourself and faith that God will allow your dreams to come to fruition.

He talked about having the belief that you will succeed, despite the obstacles. The positivity, the planning and preparing for that future you desire are examples of your faith. What you believe will happen for you, actually will, as long as you have faith in yourself.

And after that moving sermon I thought it might be a good Lush Lunes mission to simply display your faith in yourself.

This is how:

If there should be a moment today where you feel the words "I can't" come to mind, check it, and reply "I will." If you feel like nothing will ever change, flip it and say out loud, "things will change soon." Just replace the negative thoughts that pop up and know that faith will pull you through and to your desires.

Chasing Bliss: The Summer of Bliss Challenge


Fitness is a lifestyle. It's part of my lifestyle. But so is a crazy hectic schedule, and balancing more than one full plate at a time - much like a circus act. Which means, when something gets cut, lots of times, it's exercise. 

That really bums me out. My body screams at me at 6:00am to wake up and move it all about on my yoga mat, yet I hit the alarm, roll over, and go back to sleep. No bueno.

So I joined a four week Summer of Bliss Challenge. You know I'm all about these four week challenges (it takes 21 days to form a habit, yada yada yada). The team I joined allows me to pick which challenges I will take up. 

What challenges are those? Well it's quite a fitness plan for me:

LushLunes: Your Bliss Level



I recently started "The Summer of Bliss" Challenge (I'll tell you more about that later), and one of my goals is to measure my bliss once a day.

I like this because it brings awareness to my emotional state and helps me map out triggers to that state.

MY BLISS LEVEL:

This morning, at 9:00am, I am feeling very happy.

MY TRIGGERS:

I slept well! I meditated, practiced my yoga and had a hearty breakfast. And I'm not letting "worry," that sorry old hag, accompany me to work.

YOUR ASSIGNMENT:

What's your mission? You guessed it. Monitor your bliss level.

Pick a time (try noon or 6:00pm, if you need a directive) and either write out what you feel or affirm it to yourself. And if it helps, run through what happened before you checked-in that may have led to those feelings.

Besides, it's good practice to check in with yourself once in a while. ;-)

LushLunes: Getting That Beauty Swagger Back

It's easy to rush around, and forget to stop a moment to say, "hey, what about me?" Well, that's why we have LushLunes. 


But what's cool about today is that I'm jumping on the #BeautySwagger bandwagon that was started on Twitter by @JaiMami:



My mission today (and yours if you choose to accept it) will be to make yourself look and feel amazing!!! 

I took some steps last week... I had a manicure and pedicure, I enhanced my exercise routine, and now  I am making sure that when I wake up on Monday, I am loving my hair, makeup and outfit. Because it is my job to look and feel my best.

We've talked about swagger before, and how it's just the little things, so whatever that definition of Beauty Swagger is for you, go for it. 

I hope that today your Lunes will be as Lush as you are.
