LushLunes: Stress is Not Invited

Stress is like a pebble thrown into a pond. It causes a ripple that has the capacity to spreads outward... impacting so many facets of our being. You wouldn't think a little pebble could do that, muddy up a perfectly calm and serene surface, but it can, if we have invited to impact us in that way.

This is why I'm such an advocate for meditation; It helps me in so many ways, especially when it comes to stress. It helps me reduce the size and impact of the ripples... it helps me to see it for what it is: just a little pebble. A pebble that really doesn't belong.

You Are What You Think

Stress manifests itself physically in my body. I know I'm not the only one this happens to. Some people, though, fail to see it. For me, it can be anything from a migraine, a stiff neck, or straight up nausea.

Sometimes I fail to see the connection. This isn't a good thing.

I try to balance myself out with meditation and exercise, but there are times when I allow my schedule to push that aside, and give the stress-inducing activities precedence. And then there are times when I full out forget to give myself the time that my body and mind needs to recuperate...and the whole practice what you preach crap hits the fan.

The "Make a Weeknight Meal Special" Challenge!

There is nothing better than a home cooked meal, where we sit at the table with those we love, eating mindfully, and enjoying each others company. We do this during those Sunday dinners when everyone can make it over to my mom's house and it always feels like a special occasion, even when it isn't.

But we can (and should) have mindful meals at home any day of the week! If they were hearty but took less time, it might be something we did more often. And although there are a myriad of ways to make this happen, the people at Bertolli gave me an opportunity to try it their way.

I've only tried Bertolli's marinara sauce when I don't have time to make my home made sauce, because it's simply an amazing substitute.  So when they asked me to try their frozen soup, I thought, "why not." It is cold out... I have been on a weird "I'm gonna cook" type of kick... and if you come here often, you know I'm all about making ordinary days totally extraordinary

Needless to say, I took them up on their challenge to "Make a Weeknight Meal Special," in under an hour.  How was I going to make this dinner special? Well, these were my three goals:

El Día de San Valentín: My Namesake & The Family Tradition

Since I was a little girl, my family had the tradition of giving Valentine's to eachother. The cards would always read, "Happy Valentine's Day to My Valentín!" (my last name). Since then I declared San Valentín my Saint name, and that was it.

Then when my parent's split, my sister and I pumped up the Valentine's Day love by showering my mom with flowers, and little gestures, and she did the same with us. She was a single mom afterall, and we decided to be her eternal Valentín's.

Open Up to the Possibilities: 21-Day Meditation Challenge

Meditation opens you up. Period.

A friend of mine has been practicing a meditation for Love; to open herself up to the possibilities of a new relationship and to feel positive energy when it comes to dating. It's simple, its light, it's airy, and her intentions are in the perfect place to help her move forward in her life.

I have been meditating on my relationship with God, for balance, and to further my goals. Some people meditate for health or just for some moments of peace. It can be whatever you want it to be. But it's worth a shot.

No matter your reason for diving into the gap, things get stirred up when you give yourself over to meditation. You've got to be ready to deal with the muck.  But your reward on the journey is this beautiful feeling of love, peace, and light.

LushLunes: All You Need Is Love

I had a talk with a few of my friends this week, and the topic of love came up, of course. The funny thing is, in the name of love we sometimes make allowances for another person, yet we fail to make those allowances for ourselves.

What did I bake? A perfectly imperfect cake. Deelish!

What do I mean? Well let's say we break something - a dish, a phone, a piece of jewelry, etc... We can be hard on ourselves. But if someone broke something of their own, we are equipped to explain away the mistakes of those we love to make them feel better.

Lush Lunes: Unleash Your Magic

Everyone has something they can do really well. I'm not talking about the skills on your resume... no sir. I mean the fun stuff. The things we rarely think about, but that we might glorify if we were 8 years old once again.
