Doubt Is Not Your Friend
As we begin to spread our wings, there will be obstacles that hold us down.
These obstacles will be in the form of Doubt, a sneaky wench that may just disguise herself in the form of loving people in our lives: time suckers, fear peddlers, or color-in-between-the-liners (to name a few).

LushLunes: Gratitude Uninterrupted
I had a fabulous four day weekend! I am so grateful that I got to spend time with my family. There were the typical Thanksgiving ups and downs, but overall I feel Thankful.
Gratitude shouldn't end after the left-overs are gone. Which is what leads me to your LushLunes assignment:
What are you grateful for? Think big AND small...

Happy Thanksgiving! [An Archived Coquito Recipe]
This is a season for giving thanks, and I am so thankful for the many blessings that I have. I am fortunate enough to have family and friends who love and support me. I am healthy of mind, body and soul. I am courageous and I am working toward my life's purpose every day. I thank God every day for giving me an abundance of blessings. And I think that deserves a toast!
Since it is a tradition to make Coquito by Thanksgiving, here's a post from a few years ago showing you just how I make it, along with a little video.

Show Me Your Teeth!
I love that Lady Gaga song, but this post is actually about my teeth. I've been thinking about Invisalign for a few years now (I even entered the SITS girls contest for free treatment!) but it just never panned out.

Gaga looks like the tooth fairy here.
There's nothing very obvious happening with my teeth, but I notice it. My teeth are shifting - especially my incisors. This is a shock to my system because I've always had straight teeth.
With the wrong lighting, I'll see a shadow in pictures and it really bothers me. Maybe I'm nitpicking, but I notice that I cover my mouth when I laugh now, and am very aware of my teeth. I know it's superficial, but I hate feeling this way.

LushLunes: Gifting Your Talents
It's LushLunes once again my dears! I know you're excited for today's mission.
Part of my ritual as an actress has been to gift myself. When I give a kick-ass audition, my Coach has taught me to treat my talent, which essentially means I should throw some positive reinforcement my way.
So I do! It's so easy to give positive reinforcement to others when you see that they need it. It's easy to motivate other people when it's in your heart to do so. But what about us?
We have to make sure that we are our priority and show ourselves some L-O-V-E.
Which leads me to your mission...

Your Smile Should Rock!
I love my teeth, but it hasn't been easy. I've been trying over the past few years to do all I can to make sure I that when I smile, I exude confidence. I want to make sure that I have a smile that rocks!

My strips, courtesy of Crest, & my toothpaste, courtesy of moi.
I've used multiple types of at-home whitening treatments over the years. So when the people at Crest asked me to try their 3D white strips, I thought why not - besides I already use the Crest 3D White Vivid Toothpaste. And trying out these strips went with the overall theme of trying to get my teeth to look awesome, especially these past few weeks (you'll get that story next week).
My teeth aren't perfect, but they're all mine and I owe it to them to take care of them the best way I can. As an actress, that includes keeping them nice and white, without harming the enamel (or my wallet).

Waves of Grief: A Year Later
When you lose someone you love, no one ever tells you what that pain feels like. No one can understand they very basic nature of that kind of pain. Unless you've felt it, you can't understand the waves...

Mi Querido Papito
It comes, and it goes, a little less every time, but it hits you without warning. You can ride the waves or let them crash against you.
Today marks a year that Papito passed away. It may sound crazy, but I feel him around me sometimes. And in the days leading up to this anniversary his presence has felt stronger.

LushLunes: A Ten Day Count Down
I read this incredible post via @RealYogaNYC and I wanted to share it with all of you.
The article "Change Your Life Before Thanksgiving" is pretty awesome and sounded like a perfect way to start LushLunes (especially since it takes off from where we left off last week!)
Their mission is simple:
For 10 days before Thanksgiving write down at least 5 positive affirmations about yourself and at least 3 specifically about your body. -Nadya

Lost? Look At The Signs
Every time you look there are signs leading you in the right direction. I believe this with every fiber of my being. And once again, I saw it first hand.
Recently I was feeling a little sad and while at the train station I was so completely moved by this guy singing.
He was so passionate that you could hear it with each lyric of "I believe I can fly." He was good, though he needed some training, but he had courage and raw talent. I smiled as I listened. I wished him success and sent little vibes of positivity with the dollar I put in his hat.

Be Still My Heart: It's National Cappuccino Day (#latteclub)
My grandparents gave me a taste for cafe a very long time ago and I've been a coffee lover ever since. Every time I pass by my Krups espresso maker I remember the day I went to Macy's to buy it on sale. I gave up the colador (they way mamita still makes it) for an easier way to make my awesome coffee.
My cafe con leche is what I drink daily. When I want an extra special treat I head to Tiramisu's in Queens and have the dessert that is it's namesake along with a delicious capp.

LushLunes: Think Happy Thoughts
Today's Lush Lunes mission is about our inner dialogue.
It's so easy to beat ourselves up or to work ourselves into a frenzy. Whether its because we're not on time, we're not getting enough done, maybe just not eating right, whatever, sometimes we have no problem being really hard on ourselves.
But we deserve better than that. We should stop for a second to think about how much we've overcome and how much we've accomplished. You know that if it were anyone else we would have no problem congratulating them.

A Small Voice
You've got to listen to that small voice inside of you. It's an instinct, a guide, a greater power, or your higher self. Whatever you believe it to be, it's there for a reason - your survival. And in allowing you to survive it guides you away from harm and to things that will serve you best.
You'll notice it especially in times of great stress and worry. When you've worked yourself into a tizzy there might be something that says "breathe" or "stop" or just very plain and to the point: "don't worry."
Here's a good example. As I ran to my next meeting today I was literally running up the stairs accompanied by this very bossy chick called internal turmoil (all in my mind). Amidst her very loud yip yapping, whining, huffing and puffing, there entered a very calm, cool, collected, serene yet strong woman (my own voice coming from my heart) saying, "stop running."
As I stopped running, I exhaled and I responded out loud: "ok. ok."

What Do You Want? A Question Worth Asking!
Do you ever ask yourself what you want? When you're running around asking everyone else what they want and what they need it's easy to forget about yourself. But guess what?! What you want matters!
So ask yourself, what do you want? Anything from lunch to life goals, the question is worth asking and asking often. Here's a little vlog from the archives! Enjoy!

Your Own Brand of Romance
I love the dinners, the courting, the dancing... but what I really love is the stuff that no one knows about, no one sees, the true goofy intimacy that two people in love share.
He sings to me. He sometimes sings made up lyrics, and I just adore it. He sings, then I sing and we croon like two tone-deaf love birds. My ears are full of love, and from his lips there is no sweeter melody.
Encourage the romance my friends.
Dancing. We're both good dancers but we're not doing that at night clubs anymore. My favorite dances are right in my living room. Are you picturing flowers and candles and flowing gowns?Well that aint it! He'll spontaneously have his ipod touch in hand, reach out to me, and I'll giggle as we fly around the room like two fools together. Two fools in love. Enjoying the little moments.
Dance like no one is watching my dears.
