Earthquakes, Hurricanes, and Cheap Wine
Last week there was an earthquake in NY. Of course I thought I was fainting, then I thought that a bomb went off and the building was going to collapse, but no it was just an earthquake that was felt from state to state.
Then we had to prepare for Hurricane Irene. My family and I discussed it, we bought groceries, non-perishables and made go-bags. We didn't really talk about where to go should we need to use the go-bag, so we decided to laugh about this over a glass of cheap wine. Before it kicked it we averted a water leak crisis in the window, and then looked up a nearby "hurricane shelter" just to be safe.
As I internally waited for the locusts to arrive, my sister, mom and I played with the dog, laughed a lot, and drank our wine very slowly. We don't really drink. We're light weights. But what was important is that we spent time together. The time we never really have together on a Saturday night - the power puff girls unite!

Remnants of BlogHer: A GLMPS of a moment.
I've been trying to win an iPad for about a year. Mind you, I was the girl whose only Apple-anything was an ipod nano from 2007 when Che bought it for me as a gift. I've entered contests galore and nothing ever came of it. Big surprise, right? Mind blowing, I know.
Well let me tell you about the series of events that led to me getting an iPad and the lesson learned in the process. Because it's never really about the object, (because that's just a thing, even if it is a really nice thing to have), but it's always about the lesson.

Lush Lunes: Lucky Charms
This week I have been asked twice about my necklace and what
it means, and so it is the inspiration for today's mission.
When Sorayu left for a new job that took her away 99% of the time, she gave me a gift. It was a necklace from Satya Jewlery, a token meant to symbolize inner peace, to bring me positive energy and to serve as a reminder that I am protected. It was a constant reminder that she was with me always.

OM symbol brings inner peace and harmony.
Carnelian gem stone protects against fear & promotes positive thought.
Hamsa is a symbol of protection, meant to harness the positive energy, dispelling the bad.

Acting: It's In My Genes
In the book "Scott Sedita's Guide to Making It in Hollywood" there's a section on the acting Gene. After reading that, I knew that my history of being a little performer, and recreating scenes from movies should have led me to the conclusion that I wanted to act much sooner than it did (but everything happens for a reason, I know).
Pero, guess what?! Apparently a love for acting and film really IS in my genes.

I found out Papito had the acting bug, and that's why he was so interested in movies! Oh. My. God. In that same conversation with my mother, I also found out that on Mamita's side we had an actor / director in the family (who loved flying, by the way...jetsetting...)!
Let's repeat the Oh. My. God. here. Can you see where I'm going with this?

LushLunes: Challenge Yourself to YOU Time.
I've been so busy since BlogHer that I haven't made time to meditate
or exercise. Zero. Zilp. Zilch. Nada. Then I got this awesome email from the
Chopra Center and I thought to myself "thank you."
And so I'm sharing this with you. Today starts the 21 day meditation challenge. Are you up for it?

Got Milk, Latte Love, and BlogHer11! UPDATE
I love lattes! Which is perfect because I heart MILK! Yes, I'm a big MILK fan and a big espresso fan, so you do the math.
How do I make my lattes at home? Well, I use my Krups espresso machine, Cafe Bustelo, steamed Whole Milk, a drop of vanilla, a pinch of cinnamon and two spoons of sugar. yummmm. It has to be whole milk, or it's just doesn't taste like cafe con leche.
Since I'm clearly a fan, last year at BlogHer10 I took my Milk Mustache pic, and was really proud of it!

Since I'm clearly a fan, last year at BlogHer10 I took my Milk Mustache pic, and was really proud of it!
So of course I had to check out the Got Milk people at BlogHer11. And when I got there, they had MY pic UP on their board!!! Wowza! I yelped! (I was very sophisticated, going, Oooh! That's me!)
They also hooked me up with an awesome latte mug, just like they did last year. Gotta love a good latte mug.

BlogHer11: A Force to be Reckoned With
I am back from California, but my body is still on PST!!! And so is my brain. I miss the gorgeous San Diego weather - which just happens to be PERFECT 100% of the time! Sheesh, rub it in, would ya!
| My new iPhone takes better pictures. You no longer have to suffer thru my BlackBerry. |
I also miss my daily lounging by the pool. Yes, lounging by the pool (a.k.a. my office) was in my schedule. I went to a few sessions in my beach cover up because I couldn't be late to my "office" where I had several "meetings" (a.k.a. drinks and/or sun bathing) with fellow bloggers, @RoxanaSB, @TheArtMuse, @SuzRocks, @MilwaukeeMamas, and of course, @NYCPatty.

A Toast To Friendship
I remember as a young girl I had all these "friends." After a while you learn that true friendship is only confirmed through time and experience - it's a give and take relationship. It is NOT Give give give. It is NOT take take take.
I remember this episode of Felicity (do. not. mock. that was my favorite show ever. That and My So-called life. Teen angst anyone?) where she and her "BFF" were stuck on the subway and a wise old fellow taught them a thing or two about friendship - they weren't really friends after all.
I learned my lessons too and what I've learned gets reinforced as I remember to beware of the red flags people raise.

LushLunes: Happiness is Success
It's LushLunes my deep thinkers! I am on my way back from my self sponsored trip to the 2011 BlogHer conference and am currently on a plane home! You know I'll have tons to share with you once I get back in front of a computer!
Today, just focus on this quote on success:
Simple right? Now, feel free to check out a mission from the archives and start listing how successful you are.

I think success is being surrounded by friends, family and food."

Bathing Suits: Avoiding The Lemons
Price doesn't usually indicate whether an item is of good quality. But sometimes it does.
I had a cheap bathing suit once. It cost me $5. I had it for 3 years, it was gorgeous, and loved it. On the third year when I was in Destin, Florida I was walking on the beach and had just spoken to the lifeguard. I thought I was so cute in my bikini. As I turned around... I heard something snap.... And the lemons were free.
I grabbed my chest and hurled my body to the sand screaming for my friend Sorayu to come and laughing so hard from the trauma - yes laughing - she could hardly understand why I was kissing the sand. Then she saw my bare back. That chick took her super strength and tied up the back of that broken bikini so tight I could've made lemonade.

LushLunes: Making Motivational Me Time
Happy LushLunes ! I am running around preparing for my trip to BlogHer (and preparing to let go of my preparation in order to fully enjoy myself). This is definitely a "Me" time thing.
It's good to have motivational music on any time you can fit it in to your schedule. That being said, I'll be listening to my personal soundtrack on my flight to San Diego for BlogHer2011! (jetsetting! woohoo!)
Have you made your own personal soundtrack? Feel free to check out a mission from the archives and start a Soundtrack for your life. There's a cool track for you to download in there!

And finally, while I'm away, here's a little dose of inspiration for you from my vlog...it's an exercise in self motivation and getting back in touch with yourself!
