Maya Indie Film Series - Giveaway

As an actress and a Latina, I support the arts, and you know film is one of my passions. So I was psyched when Maya Entertainment invited me to their 3rd annual Indie Film Series,  bringing Latino films to the world.

" Maya Entertainment... provide[s] a unique platform for independent film, with a particular focus on culturally diverse cinema.... This year the series features films from Eva Longoria, Kate del Castillo, Oscar Nunez, Christian Slater, Manny Perez, Mark Ruffalo and Orlando Bloom...."

Of all few movies I had the time and opportunity to watch, Forged was
my favorite (special thanks to Kevin and Steven for making that happen).

The NonPrize from A Beauty Brand UPDATE

This is an update regarding "The NonPrize from A Beauty Brand" post from May 2011.  You may recall that I publicly admonished a brand for not being accountable. Well, after I wrote about my experience , there was such an outpouring from you, my deep thinkers, that I finally received the dollhouse that I was supposed to receive in 2010.

shipment arrived!

Shortly after the post went live, the new social media coordinator of @askelf apologized for what happened and had the gi-normous dollhouse shipped out to me in June 2011.

LushLunes: Vision Boards

Last week our LushLunes mission was to write down what you would do if you knew you could not fail. This week is a follow up.

I heard some great responses, specifically from  @LauraCYW who said she'd write a book, and @LilBlkSunshine who wants to write a cookbook and @lausonrisa who plans her steps to success as she makes her way through school. Kudos to you FABULOUS ladies! I'm so honored that your intentions were written down as a comment on my blog.

I intend to write a book down the line as well (I believe my story as told through my blog will facilitate the process)!  It's on the LIST, along with images, and slogans of what I want in my life! Where do I put all that stuff, you ask? Well, it's on my vision board.

Which leads me to your LushLunes assignment (a bit of a craft session):

Bring On The Water!

This is kind of a random post, but I friggin love the beach! The ocean, the waves...I'm such a beach girl. I am my happiest at the orilla where the sand and ocean meet against my toes.

I feel that when I eventually put roots down, my life has to be near the ocean (however, I will compromise for a large swimming pool where I can swim and do laps and still be within half an hour from the beach).

Crashboat beach, Aguadilla, Puerto Rico

Maybe I just have a good relationship with water. When I was little I would run in the rain in front of our house in Puerto Rico giggling and splashing about.

"Your Shirt" Poetry in Honor of My Partnership

I've been with Che for many many years, and today is our anniversary.

Love, romance, laughter, passion, and having a companion to celebrate life's little - and big - moments with are not things I take for granted.

Che (just a peek at him) and Me.

In honor of today, I am sharing with you, my deep thinkers, a poem I wrote about him many years ago. Enjoy!

San Diego Here I Come! #BlogHer2011

In about two weeks I will be making my first trek out to California!!!  Can I get a WooHoo?!  I've never been to Cali, and ever since I started blogging I've made a lot of connections out there. Which is timely since the prospect of moving to L.A. is something that sits on the shelf... I dust it off now and again.

me. confused..

Anyway, I digress. I went to BlogHer in NYC last year and it was a fabulously exhausting yet enriching experience!

People would approach me with enthusiasm saying things like "wow! you're lalicenciada!" And I would look around dumbfounded then sneak away totally freaked out. There was so much to see, do, and soooo many people to meet! And those who "knew" me within the blogosphere, were incredibly welcoming in real life (I'm grateful for that).

LushLunes: Taking Failure Out Of the Equation

“What would you do if you knew you could not fail?” -Robert H. Schuller

Have you heard that before? Did you let it wash past you and over you? Have you taken the time to really consider it?

Every day I try to remain positive in pursuing my bliss, and I consider this quote to keep me moving forward, accepting and surmounting challenges day after day.

So what's your LushLunes mission?

Being True To Yourself? That's Latina Smart.

Recentlly, Rachel from The Art Muse tagged me as part of the LatinaSmart video campaign! The concept is, I answer five questions, and then tag another Latina to express her Latina Smartness in her own video.

The campaign posed seven questions, and of those I decided to answer the following questions:

Style & Sensibility: The Coach Laptop Sleeve Giveaway

I've been a writer - a story teller - ever since I first learned how to write. But I've only been blogging for about three years...well, in two months it will be three years exactly!

I love writing. So to celebrate the past three years of doing just that on my petite lifestyle blog, and having you my deep thinkers following, reading and commenting every step of the way... I had the grandiose idea of going to Coach - one of my favorite brands, and giving one lucky deep thinker the chance to win something fabulous!

While at Coach I saw this laptop sleeve and I thought it was a perfect accessory. It's stylish and sensible (just like me!) - and suits the needs of those of us who reside in the blogosphere, or at the very least those who tote our laptops when we travel (jet setters!).

Home Remedies For The Sick-Faced.

"Sick face" is a term I use when I feel... you guessed it, sick. When I'm getting sick, for instance, this sore throat I'm sporting, I try to kick it with apple cider vinegar and honey and gargling with warm salt water. I also start popping supplements like B-complex vitamins, Vitamin C, and Echinacea.

But if I don't take these home remedies when I have the first inkling that I will be sick (something I did not do this time around), then I've just got to brace myself for the long haul.

LushLunes: It's Ok To Be Silly

Happy LushLunes, my deep thinkers!!! I recently read a post by one of my favorite tweeple @ZenMommie which expressed an amazing message:

"Zen is to have the heart and soul of a little child."Takuan
[you should definitely read her post here]

After reading this, I realized I enjoy my moments more when I smile, when I relax my shoulders, when I am mindful of how I feel, my breath, the sounds around me, the wind, the sun...when I pay attention to all the little details I just relax because there's no more room in my mind for worry or debate.

And when I let myself PLAY, there's nothing that can bring me down. If I add a little playfulness to each thing I do, well then it makes my day all that much brighter.  So, this leads me to your LushLunes assignment.

Hurdling Toward Your Bliss

I read a post by @KCLAnderson that really inspired me (I found that blog thanks to @NYCPatty).

She was going through a difficult time and found herself quite literally climbing mount misery. Fear of success, depression, and negative self-talk can really make us stop dead in our tracks especially when we're trying our hardest to accomplish our goals. I know I've been there.

My foot. On a Rock. In Central Park.

But by the end of her beautifully written post you could feel the energy, the positivity, and the stick-to-it-tiveness...as she overcame the literal and metaphorical obstacle created by Mount Misery (that deserves a woot woot!)

Who walks, when you can fly? | ¿Quién camina, cuando se puede volar?

I have always been amazed by flying. I frequently jet-set mostly for work, but as of late it's been for vacation (YAYYYYY! I'm away right now!!!).

Isn't it amazing how you can be home one minute and several hours later be thousands of miles away from everything familiar?
Pic from my vacation, in Parque Colon, Aguadilla, Puerto Rico

I am thankful for the clouds I fly through safely and the ground on which I land. I feel blessed to experience new places and to relish my second home, Puerto Rico.
