LushLunes: Pamper Yourself
You know that Mondays are ME days... because we've chosen to take advantage of day we usually hate, and flip our perspective to make it LUSH. Today I had my photoshoot. I got a good nights rest, I primped, and powdered, then afterward I soaked in a hot bath. It was a day focused on me. So I thought that would be a good way to spend a Monday.
Here's your LUSH LUNES ASSIGNMENT:

Channel Your Duality: Black Swan DVD Giveaway (ends 4/1)
"A story about a girl who turned into a swan...." and what a swan she was.
If you follow me on twitter, you may have heard that I watched the Black Swan twice. Yes... TWICE.
![]() |
I've had a girl crush on Natalie Portman since The Professional and was thrilled to see her win the Oscar for The Black Swan. She friggin deserved it. I only hope I can work alongside her one day. |
You may have also heard me talk about my failed pirouette as I tried to channel my five year old ballerina self after watching the movie. Let's just say, there was a minor embarrassment.
What I enjoyed the most about the film is the tortured duality it explores - colors that are part of all of us, to a degree. I sometimes deal with this as an actress - stepping away from the polished lawyer/good girl and tapping into that very raw savage part - it presents a challenge for me (not to the level expressed in the Black Swan, ok? Let's not get CRAZY).
Stuck In The Middle
I've been feeling bummed lately about where I'm at: Purgatory.
Not for-real purgatory, (ie the DMV), but my own personal middle ground, waiting for my ticket to be called up to the next window where dreams come true.
Maybe its because March is the longest Month in life, or that I haven't committed to a vacation because I'm worried about time off from work as it relates to my acting (days needed for auditions, call backs, and *fingers crossed* more bookings!). I think I'm just worn out. I've been doing a lot of talk about vacation, a lot of checking prices on flights, but no purchases.
The worrying, the constant thinking about tomorrow...the urgent willing to make acting my day job (and for blogging to be a source of joyful income), is taking its' toll. And I'm so very tired from all this resistance to the now.
As the Universe would have it, I heard two people tell me the same thing yesterday: You only life this life once: make the most of it.

LushLunes: Patting Yourself On The Back
Last week, I asked you to tell me how Incredible you are. The comments for the LushLunes giveaway moved me to tears.
Reading how you persevered and how you give yourself the Me time you deserve was so refreshing, that I had to share a few of those comments in a post.
The Girl With The Hoop Earring
I was walking in Manhattan and put on my scarf after the blustery wind hit me square in the face. So much for Spring.
I was on my way home and it was the first day I put on my hoop earrings in weeks.
These earrings have a special meaning to me. My first real grown-up full time job was as an elementary school teacher. With my first paycheck I wanted to buy myself a little something. Hoop earrings have always been my staple, so I wanted to buy myself a pair.
I went to China town and looked in every jewelry store. I haggled until I got my 14k gold pair of earrings for exactly $80.00. I was so proud of my first purchase as a working adult.
The MOST Incredible Winner of the Victoria's Secret Giveaway
Last weeks LushLunes mission asked you to tell me How Incredible You Are. And boy did you rise to the task!
Seventeen AWESOME comments later, we've got a winner!
As always, I counted up the number of comments, and went over to Random.org to see which entry won. Of the seventeen total Deep Thinkers who commented (on HerDeepThoughts.com and over at Open Salon)...

To Drown Or Not To Drown In My Reflection
Recently, a fellow blogger and actress (@TheArtMuse) suggested I put up more pictures of myself. As an actress, the more exposure I get, the better. I think this is a good idea. It works well on her blog and I love her photos.
But I don't put up pics of myself very often. I have created pictures for my blog, snapped photos of some of my artwork, taken pictures of random things, and sometimes throw up a pic of me eating a cheeseburger, but here's my question: Do you really want to see my face more often?
I don't want my blog to go from Her Deep Thoughts to The Narcissist's Thoughts... but I see other bloggers post photos of themselves and I never think that of them. Ever. Instead, I think, "hey, how cool!" Or "I like how they did that," etc.
So, here's my question: do you want to see my face on this blog within the context of my posts more often, or should I reserve that for the my vlogging on my YouTube page?
Please, let me know your deep thoughts!!!

#LushLunes - Be Incredible (Victoria's Secret Incredible Perfume Giveaway)
It's Monday again, which means its time for #LushLunes!!! It's the only thing I ever look forward to on Mondays. Well, my deep thinkers, to make this Lunes a Lush one, I've got something really fab for you, and a little different.
You know I'm always talking about swagger, and hoping to inspire you to feel your best (especially on icky Mondays).
Well, the new campaign for the Incredible perfume by Victoria's Secret's really inspired me. The "Be confident. Be bold. Be amazing," message sounded perfect for a LushLunes mission. Dontcha think?

You Reap What You Sow
In the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills you might have seen how Lisa VanderPump was taken advantage of, and how that person really didn't appreciate their generosity, to say the least. What happened with her really hit close to home.
There was a woman living at my moms house, someone who was supposed to be a friend of Buttercup.
I remember seeing this woman taking advantage of Buttercup. Any attempt I made to warn her really didn't work. So in my own way of trying to "help" without overstepping my boundaries, I refused to let her take advantage of me.

Last week I posted the interview with the ever fabulous, socially conscious jewelry designer, Laura Coleman of Turtle Neck Jewelry. As you know, she hosted a giveaway of this fabulous Black and White Redux ($38.50 retail value) bracelet exclusively for my deep thinkers (yay Laura!).

Enabler's Anonymous
It's not easy being an enabler. It must be addictive. As the first born in my family, I became the go-to person. While very young my mother told me that I was responsible to help her in the house and to help take care of my sister. She did it for her my mother, and it was my turn.
I've spent my life as the mediator, secretary, chauffer, and so on. All of my 1st born cousins are the go-to-people in their nuclear families. This is just how we are.
But I feel like of all the go-to people, I am the Alpha Enabler. There must some little green witch sitting on my shoulder whining, "you must help them, my pretty." All of the "elders" in my extended family are very capable of handling things on their own. I just feel like they know that I will come through and make their lives easier if I just help them. This can be a simple request or turn into an anxiety ridden rant on the phone that causes me to cave in.

LushLunes: You ARE Successful
Happy #Lush Lunes!!!! Part of my self imposed homework has been to think more positively. That's why this weekly deep thought is a Walt Disney quote: It's kind of fun to do the impossible. And it is!
It's also a reminder that accomplishing your goals and having the things you want in this life are not impossible.
How many times have you achieved something? No matter how small you may perceive that achievement, it has been a SUCCESS!
Which brings me to your LUSH LUNES ASSIGNMENT:

Wear What Feels Good: Turtle Neck Jewelry Interview & Giveaway
During fashion week I met so many amazing designers. One of these wonderful designers is (drum roll please) Laura Coleman, the owner and designer of Turtle Neck Jewelry.
When I saw her stunning pieces, I was amazed. And after hearing that her line had a story and a larger purpose, I thought to myself, "I'd just love to show this my Deep Thinkers."
Here's the interview with the ever fabulous, socially conscious jewelry designer, whose pieces are truly a must-have. And for my deep thinking male readers, don't fret - she's coming out with a men's line very soon.
At the end of this post, check out the giveaway where you can enter to win this fabulous bracelet: The Black and White Redux ($38.50 retail value).

Be Confident. Be Bold. Be Amazing. #VSIncredible
I'm going to be excluding the boys on this one... but I think they'll be able to appreciate certain aspects of this post - basically, the models.
I was invited to Victoria's Secret in Soho to check out their new signature fragrance...Incredible. I was taken on a tour by the fabulous @DreamTeamSusan (courtesy of @LBConnect) to see how the Incredible perfume compliments the Incredible bra in its sexy scent.
Now, when it comes to perfume, I have to be careful. I'm actually allergic to most - I sneeze non-stop if it's too strong. So I normally stick to one light perfume or lightly scented lotions. But this floral fruity fragrance is a very flirty summer scent (say that three times fast). I really like it. It will be nice to change up my perfume without torturing my nose in the process. So this is actually kinda perfect.

Johnny 5 is Alive!
Do you remember that old movie, Short Circuit? I'll spoil it for you. The robot Johnny 5 "is alive" because he was struck by lightning! Kinda like an electronic version of Pinocchio. Well, there's a spark in me, but I wasn't exactly struck by lightning...or maybe I was...
My mom saw me at a recent blogging related event, and she said "I've never seen you so happy. You really love what you do." It's true. The hours can pass and I get lost in it, without a worry about the time.
But there's never been a question that I love to write. I love to meet with brands and bloggers. It's just truly and completely Me - and I can be completely myself at these events. So, I feel really blessed today to report that I not only have one thing that I love to do, but two.
As you know I recently booked my first promotional gig. I don't want to talk too much about the shoot, but the experience was amazing!

Puerto Rico Does It Better
My deep thinkers... you know how much I love mi isla of Puerto Rico. And if you have checked out my vlogs on How to Make A Classic Mojito (with a twist) and How to make Coquito, you KNOW I love Puerto Rican rum! Hello, I make Coquito for my friends every year with Bacardi!!
So when @KetyE invited me to head over to the Rums of Puerto Rico event at the Empire State building, I was stoked! I called Buttercup and we were on our way.

| Rum Capital |
This won't be the first event I've been to where Puerto Rican rums were the stars - I mean, that is the essence of any party I've ever thrown - this of course topped anything I'd ever done.
The ambiance was amazing. There was a mix of live music and a DJ, delicious food made with Puerto Rican rum, and of course heavenly drinks made with...you guessed it! Puerto Rican Rum.
This event was the launch party for Puerto Rico's 2011 campaign to promote rums made on the island. I'm on board, baby!
Rum, Rum, Rum.. happy, happy, happy!

Grumpy McGrumps A Lot
I've been getting a lot of headaches, then migraines lately. I don't know why.
My diet has changed, my exercise habits have amped up, my body rejects the idea of coffee (this is like a total sin by the way... I'm only drinking 1 -2 cups a week!!! Yes, a week!), so one would think I'd be feeling all rejuvinated.
Nope.
