Back To Life, Back To Reality

Image Via Google Images
I sent you all some In Real Life Updates [recap here: In Real Life Update and Another In Real Life Update ] to let you know why Her Deep Thoughts wasn't running the same.

That's because I wasn't running the same. Life just sort of smacked me in the face. And then Death came knocking on the door.

Its been nine days since Papito passed away. The last time I saw him, he was in the hospital bed before he was discharged. He was back to his normal self - as sharp as a whip. I told him about all the family that came to see him and how they had to throw us out every night. He couldn't remember. I told him that he'd been there seven days and everyone of us came everyday. He was surprised at the time that had passed.

I told him that I loved him and that he was not only my grandpa, but my dad. He smiled. I kissed him on the cheek, and said, "Bendicion, Papito, te quiero mucho. Nos vemos despues," and I touched his hair.  He said "Dios te Bendiga, Mi'ja." That was the last time I saw him alive.

Gift Yourself Holiday Guide to Giving

I love the Holidays. The smell of arroz con gandules being stirred, the pavo roasting and the coquito being poured is the best thing about winter because this yumminess continues through January. And so does the gift giving. Woo Friggin Hoo!!!

Since I always start early when it comes to shopping for gifts, I decided to put together a list of things I have received as gifts, things I will buy for others, and things I have purchased for myself!

Hopefully this will help give you some shopping ideas and some incentive to treat yourself.

Lush Lunes - Wishing On A Star

Wishing On A Star (Original Version) We've taken care of "The Mondays." What's your prescription?  #LushLunes!

As you know, Monday's are now a day to pamper ourselves. Which means you can come up with your own creative way or you can do your homework assignment.

Looking up at the sky and wishing on stars use to be my most favorite thing to do. It was so relaxing to give myself over to the night, to my dreams, to my little wishes, and to the beauty of the sky. So how does this relate to your homework?

Here is your ASSIGNMENT:

On Snap! Kodak BusTour at BlogHer

You may recall me tweeting and writing about acting like a tourist in NYC. That's because I signed up for BlogHer10. Since then I have made some amazing connections with MANY bloggers. Some may thing this post is late (because it is late) but it's also timely in that the Holidays are fast approaching and I think this would make an awesome gift*.

While at BlogHer10, I got to attend a lot of cool events. One of those was the Kodak bus tour.
I had no idea that I'd get a camera.

Before this little surprise, I was bummed that I'd spent years buying cameras as gifts, but had always neglected myself. So I started camera shopping. I figured I'd be taking a stay-cation, so might as well act like a tourist.

Then before I bought a thing, the people at Kodak were like, "are you definitely definitely coming?"

And I'm like, "dude, I'm in."

Then they're like, "cool, here's this bad ass camera to take pics of NYC"

And I'm like "HOLY I was just shopping for a camera and you're giving me one? Niiice!"

Another In Real Life Update

Autumn Leaves, by Sir Everett Millais, via google images

My grandfather "Papito" gets out of the hospital today. Thanks for all your support - I really really appreciate it. I am overwhelmed by the responses via twitter, on my blog, on facebook and even via BBM.

You all brought tears to my eyes - most of you are strangers and you reached out to me. I literally looked up and whispered to God a small thank you. Thank you for the kind words of these strangers.

As a Latina I was raised to be tough - or at least not to fall apart in public. And so with my tough mask on, your kind words gave me the license to just let go, and cry what I needed to cry in the privacy of my home, after every evening in the hospital.

Today is Day 7 and the final day of his hospital stay.  He's very delicate, being 91 years old and all, so we can only hope for the best and be thankful for having him around for as long as we have.

Her Deep Thoughts - In Real Life Update

So as to not neglect you, I'm on my lunch break and wanted to give you a heads up on whats been going on. I've been offline for almost a week now because my grandfather is in the hospital. Long story short, he has congestive heart failure.

I've been to the hospital every night and am just exhausted and emotionally drained. Once he gets better or when things calm down, I will give you an update and Her Deep Thoughts will be back to normal (at least I hope).

I've got a lot of things planned, as well as a Holiday guide in the works, so please stay tuned and thanks for your patience. In Real Life stuff is happening and well, I've got to take care of that first.

Hugs,

Dream Like No One Is Watching

Often times, when I'm chasing my dreams, I feel excitement in me as well as panic. How  the hell  do I reconcile these feelings?

Salvador Dali "Exploding Clock"

I want to act. I love it. It thrills me. It challenges me. I feel alive doing it.

But acting is not what gets me paid at the moment. I have a "career" that I do not love, but it gives me a salary and benefits.

Love what I do = have no money?

...or...
Hate what I do =pay the bills?

I've told myself I am prepared to quit my job if I get a part. Really? Because the last time I checked I had no savings. I don't make big bucks like people think. I don't make six figures. I'm no where close to that kind of cash. But I've got plenty of bills bills bills.

But my mother said something to me recently that really struck a chord. She said, "While at my job I was still searching for work that I would love. But I had you two girls, and I was so afraid that what I would love would not be enough to sustain us. So I stopped."

#Lush Lunes - Memory Lane

Ever have a case of the Mondays? That's why we have #LushLunes.

What is Lush Lunes?

As you know, we have taken Monday's and made them our own. Which means you can come up with your own creative way to pamper yourself, or you can do your homework assignment.

Over the weekend I took some time to look through old photos and reminisce with my family about some fun times. Here is a short video on my experience at the most lavish event I've attended this year:
