How Did SuperWoman Achieve Balance?

A while back I attended a twitter party where the theme was attaining a work-life balance. While participating I said a lot of things that I was directing at myself, like:

“ We have to turn off the traditional supermujer  (super woman) mentality, where we justify the notion that we have to take care of x, y, and z before me. That doesn't work .” - @LaLicenciada

I've been through a lot of therapy to come to the conclusion that it is o.k. to take care of Me. There was never an example of a woman in my life that took care of herself first. It was not the norm.

Am I a Blogger or a Bochinchosa?

Bochinche

What is Bochinche? Bochinche is the Spanish word for "gossip." Another term is "chisme." No one will every admit to being a bochinchosa even if their actions prove that they have earned the title. One thing I hate are people "que llevan y traen" (who gossip). I never trust those people.

The Neighbors

If there's anything I've learned from my time in Puerto Rico and with Puerto Rican family is that we don't want to upset the neighbors. This has less to do with loud music, but more so with “ outrageous behavior.” If you go against the grain, then you’re not a very good girl. How does one go against the grain? One of the many ways is to air-out the family’s dirty laundry - being a bochinchosa.

Welcome to New York - Things To Do, Eat, See (and a mini-Giveaway!)

I know lots of bloggers will be coming to New York this summer looking for things to do and to see.

If you're not from NYC it's very easy to get all caught up in Times Square and never really see anything else. This post is designed so you don't do that.

And there's also a little giveaway at the end for your blogging endeavors.

Wordless Wednesday - An Argument Waiting To Happen

The Dilemma of Buying a Father's Day Card

Although my father has always been a presence in my life, I can't really say he has been a great dad.

As an adult, I can reflect on this and logically state that I don't think he ever understood what it meant to be a dad. That's why it's always difficult to get him a card.

I have to make sure none of the cards are too mushy and make me out to be a liar. I can't get the "Great Dad" or "Awesome Dad" cards, because, that's just not true.

On the other hand, it can't be too formal, like "To You, On Father's Day," because then it will seem like I don't care. Which would also be a lie. I do care about my dad.

"I Do What I Want," Right?

As some of you may know, this past week was a pretty hectic week for me and also brought some issues up between Che and I.
I guess there was a failure to communicate.

Let’s recap:

• Monday: called last minute to do a video shoot after work
(I found out an hour before I had to head over to the shoot and I told Che I was going to do the shoot right after I was informed).

• Wednesday: I skipped swim class and went to two blogging events (I knew about this and begged Che to go).

• Friday: I went to class then celebrated Sorayu’s birthday
(Che knew about this but maybe he was doing the guy thing where he pretends to listen).

• Saturday: I had a party to attend held by one of Che’s clients whose book is becoming a movie (This was Che's event, which he forgot about, so I had to remind him).

Ever the Socialite: Blogger Events - Updated 6.10.10

This evening I will be headed to two very cool Blogger networking events. Will you be there?

I'm really excited about going to these events, since they're only a few blocks away from each other (that's they only reason I can even attempt to attend both) and this is my FIRST time going to a Blogger event.

WooHoo! This is the first time I'm actually looking forward to "network." Plus, I'm going to be around people with whom I have shared interests (in stark contract to networking within the legal profession).

I'm also not going alone, partly to tame my nerves but mostly to get some bloggers I know into the mix a bit.

Meaningful Beauty® - To Buy or Not To Buy Into?

As you know, I've been looking for a skin care line to call my own for a long time.

Need a refresher? Check out these posts:

Drowning In Anti-Aging Products

Women Of A Certain Age

I was up one Sunday morning and saw an infomercial for Meaningful Beauty® - Anti Aging Skin Care Products by Cindy Crawford.

This is the second time I have ever bought anything from an infomercial (the first time was Hip Hop Abs... that's another story). In fact, I hardly ever order things I haven't first seen physically before my eyes and have had a chance to try out beforehand.

While watching the infomercial, I looked up some blog posts on it, read mixed reviews and wasn't sure I would call. However, when I saw Cindy Crawford's before and after picture, that's when I picked up the phone. Have you seen those pictures?
